A$AP Rocky has become one of the many celebrity victims to have his/her home robbed in Los Angeles. Recently over the past few months, Kendall Jenner, Emmy Rossum, Trevor Ariza, and more have fallen victim to this celebrity epidemic. A$AP Rocky had more than $1 million dollars worth of jewelry and other property stolen from his household on the night in question.
A$AP Rocky was not home at the time, and it has been reported that this was a targeted robbery. Earlier on the same day of the robbery, A$AP Rocky posted a video of A$AP Bari throwing cash in a money counter. This could have provoked the robbers, but the recent frequency of celebrity home robberies in Los Angeles suggests that Rocky may have been targeted regardless of his antics. Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating to see if there is a connection between this and other recent celebrity robberies.

On Tuesday May 16, three men carrying guns knocked on A$AP Rocky’s front door around 11 p.m. They forced themselves in after a woman, who is believed to be a relative, answered the door. Thankfully, the woman was unharmed, but the three robbers got away with around $1.5 million worth of jewelry and property. They also fled with a safe, but abandoned it on a nearby sidewalk because they couldn’t figure out the combination to unlock it.
If caught, the three burglars could face serious consequences. Specifically, Penal Code 211 in California reads that “robbery is the felonious taking of personal property in the possession of another, from his person or immediate presence, and against his will, accomplished by means of force or fear.” Further, committing this robbery with two or more people means that the possible sentence is elevated from 3-6 years to 3-9. Although the unidentified woman was not injured, she was still held against her will with the threat of guns and personal property was taken from the house. It’s safe to say that these robbers will serve their time if captured.

With overcrowded prisons, changes in laws have led to a release of a number of non-violent prisoners, which may correlate with the recent rise in crime. In fact, last November, Proposition 57 was approved, which will ultimately release 9,500 inmates over the next four years. Whether this, or revealing personal belongings on social media has to do with a rise in recent crimes or not, athletes and celebrities continue to have their homes robbed in the greater Los Angeles area.
